Neighborhood Garden Initiative
A few weeks ago I posted about a recent shipment of Xenith shells, our biggest to date. As these shells travel around our country before they arrive, I pay good money to ensure that they will arrive safely—mainly, I pay for sturdy stackable 3’x4’ crates. These small ‘boxes’ stack one on another to create the crate and are designed to make unloading and disassembly very easy. They also collapse flat for pre-and-post purposes; it’s a nice design.
The issue is though that once they arrive here, what do I do with them? As fortune has it, I have been able to connect with a friend of the Neighborhood Garden Initiative who will happily take these shipping ‘boxes’ and turn them into garden beds! The NGI’s mission statement is: [We] exists to bring function, purpose, and beauty to the land we occupy, educate families on the importance of food sovereignty, and lend a helping hand to all in need. Our goals are to put a garden in every home, share our knowledge and bounties with one another, and continue to help put the food system back into the hands of the people.
I love to know that these shipping crates will get a second life as garden beds, bringing life and sustenance to those in need.
