Playing For Change

My guess is that you’ve seen a Playing For Change video (the one below has almost 170million views). I was contacted by Ehssan Karimi, a handpan player that I’ve been in touch with for years via social media. He notified me that he was going to have the opportunity to participate in a Playing For Change video, as a handpan player, but that he didn’t have the right scale for the project. Specifically, he needed something in C major and wanted to know if I knew anyone in LA that had something like that.

Sure, I bet I could go through my rolodex of retune jobs from the last 10 years and find someone…or I could just send him a Xenith! Specifically, a D Celtic, D/ A C D E F G A. While it is in D minor, you do have a good amount of C major, C D E F G A. Enough to play simple children’s songs (Twinkle Twinkle, Jingle Bells, etc). Adding to that, I also sent him an experimental C Mixo that I made just for the video—C/ G A C D E F G. Between the two he had more than enough to work on.

I really look forward to seeing a handpan, let alone 2 Xeniths, in the upcoming Playing For Change video!
